Challenge: The Quick Fields 8 product can be customized to extract all sorts of information from documents using scanning and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Users can configure regular expressions to customize the kinds of information to extract through a feature known in the product as Pattern Matching. Because there are so many options and regular expressions are so complex, users needed help understanding the possibilities and how to refine them.
How I helped: Talked to employees who worked on the product and with users. Read company’s technical forums to see common questions. Reviewed guides to .NET regular expressions.
Solution: Created a guide to using regular expressions in the product, with specific examples based on common use cases.
